November 15th of each year, America Recycles Day, is the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to raising awareness and action about recycling.
History of America Recycles Day
America Recycles Day was started in 1997 by the National Recycling Coalition. The program has been managed by the Keep America Beautiful organization since 2009. Each year on this day, there are thousands of events held to promote the practice of recycling. Chances are, there is an event near you.
Goal of America Recycles Day
The goal of the day is to educate citizens on the importance of recycling in our communities and connect people to their local recycling events. According to the America Recycles Day website, recycling has increased significantly over the last 30 years and the current recycling rate is 34%. Also from this website, you can find local events as well as make a personal pledge to reduce the amount of waste that you generate.
Your local community may have similar resources as well. You can find more information about Mobile, AL recycling centers at http://mobilerecycles.com/ and http://www.cityofmobile.org/recycle/. Some areas even have a curbside service which makes recycling even easier.
